I hired a new model for a photoshoot a few weeks ago. Like many models entering my studio for the first time, she was impressed by the medieval props and backdrops. She told me that my studio reminded her of scenes from the movie Army of Darkness, and she suggested I should see it. I finally got around to doing so.
This is a 1992 Sam Raimi film which is the third installment of a trilogy, though it is easy to follow the plot if you haven't seen the first two parts (which I have not). Raimi, as most of you know, was one of the principal people behind the Xena: Warrior Princess series and the Hercules series. More recently, he directed the Spiderman films.
The protagonist, Ash Williams, played by Bruce Campbell (Autolycus of Xena/Hercules fame), is sucked back in time to medieval Europe and is captured by a warlord. With the help of a chainsaw that he brought along, he fights his way out of some tough spots and discovers that he needs to find a magic book, the Necronomicon, in order to return to his own time. After many misadventures, there is a final battle between Ash and his allies and an army of living dead creatures.
The movie can be classified as a horror comedy, and it doesn't take itself seriously at all. It seems to have a bit of a cult following (the model who recommended the movie to me was really into it). I thought it was pretty good, but I don't consider myself a member of the cult. Most of Bruce Campbell's dialog seemed like a never-ending stream of one-liners and catchphrases. Some parts were a bit hokey and juvenile (there's a lot of Three Stooges-type humor). But there were a few clever ideas in terms of special effects and they seemed to have a decent budget for scenery and props. If you really like campy films and if you like Bruce Campbell, you'll love this movie.

I noted in one of the captions above that I wanted to make a set of stocks and photograph a woman in it. I finally got around to doing it. The stocks needed a little more work, but the model wanted to try them on, so I figured we would just go ahead and try it. The full photoset is in the members' area of MythicWomen.
